Lumberyard Millwork Yard Sales Associate
Job Type: Part-Time
Lumber and mill work sales associates provide fast, friendly service by actively seeking out customers to assess their needs and providing assistance in a warehouse environment. Sales associates have an emphasis on department and product knowledge, providing information on product features. Sales associates maintain the in-stock condition of assigned areas and ensure that it is clean and safe. Each associate has the responsibility of providing a safe working and shopping environment by following all safety policies and standards, completing specified safety training, immediately correcting hazards and unsafe conditions or reporting conditions to the manager, and working safely as not to endanger themselves, co-workers, vendors or customers. These associates work in cooperation with other associates in their department as well as other sales departments.
Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities:
- Provide fast, friendly service and actively seek out customers in the aisles
- Offer a friendly greeting, smile and make eye contact with customers
- Has the ability to follow instruction
- Has the ability to pick orders and prepare them for shipment
- When necessary, handle several customers at once
- Thank customers
- Has the desire to gain knowledge about products
- Answer questions about merchandise for the customer’s level of expertise
- Escort customers to appropriate merchandise
- Work to acquire product knowledge in all departments
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors year-round
- Has the ability to handle merchandise and work with tools and sharp edges
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must be legally permitted to work in the United States
- Position regularly requires lifting, handling, carrying and moving material or equipment of moderate weight (8 to 50 pounds). This job is very physical and requires lots of manual labor.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Forklift experience
- Retail sales or trade experience
